Possible Power Outage Situation in Hamilton County

We are continuing to monitor the power outage situation in the county and working with our partners to determine appropriate responses. We encourage residents who may experience a power outage to call Duke Energy at
1-800-343-3525 to report the outage or check their website for updates:

At this time no shelters have been opened. Residents should c...ontinue to check their local news sources or our Facebook page for the latest information.

Here are a list of things to do in you would lose power:
•Know where control valves are for all utilities. Shut off water at the main valve if pipes freeze
•Check gas pilot lights when power is restored
•Open cabinet doors and open faucets to help prevent freezing
•Do not use gas or charcoal grills inside
•Make sure kerosene and other heaters have adequate ventilation
•Huddle with others to conserve body heat
•Close off unneeded rooms. Stuff towels or papers around doors
•Eat high energy foods
•Hang blankets over windows at night
•Check for the availability of shelters in the area. During a widespread extended power outage, shelters may be established by county officials
•Listen for information and instructions.

Currently the county is currently receiving around 1’-1 ½” of snow per hour. Visibility in the area is down to ¼ to ½ mile.

As a reminder:
Hamilton County is under a Travel Warning and will remain in this state until such time as weather clears and roads become passable. Only emergency responders should be out at this time.
